Please feel free to take your time, look around the site and read any article that catches your eye. If you have success using one or more of the tips on this site, be sure to return here and post a comment letting everyone know how you did.

In my search for the name crappie I have encountered a few names over the years. If you haven't heard some of them, you soon will if you take your crappie fishing seriously. In some areas of the United States, crappie is pronounced exactly as it's spelled, and most folks don't think too much about it. You may have your own name for crappie or hear some variations in your crappie fishing travels.

Here are a few names that I have heard over the years: Perch, White perch, Sun perch, Tin perch, Sand perch, Speckled perch, Bridge perch, Silver perch.  They are also called Bigfin bass, Grass bass, Lake bass, Silver bass.  A few other double-names are Pale crappie, Timber crappie and Ringed crappie. Some single names I've heard are Specks, Slabs, Slabbies, Barfish and Silversides. The most popular other name for a crappie is have heard seems to be Papermouth.

I suspect that many of the talented crappie fishing writers and television personalities are responsible for several of these crappie nick names, but no matter what you choose to call them and no matter what other information you gain from reading the tips and techniques articles here on my site, the most important thing to remember is that crappie fishing is one of the most rewarding and fun types of fishing.
